3 reasons you’re dropping the ball in life and biz (and what to do instead)!

...there's not enough time to get everything done and it feels like I'm always dropping the ball.

I hear this a lot from women in my Bliss Breakthrough sessions

Being an ambitious professional has a ton of moving parts.

I'm not gonna lie.

It often feels like your splitting your energy between your task list for your business and the obligations, dreams and desires for your family and home life.

There's nothing worse than feeling like you're dropping the ball in both places.

Compromising quality time with your kids, so that you can work late to get the job done

Never having the time to grow your business in a meaningful way because the laundry, roof leak and carpet stains are taking up your precious windows of opportunity.

Never mind actually having down time...

But what if you could turn that all round?

Here are 3 reasons why you may be dropping the ball and what to do instead...

1. You suck at delegating

It's ok. I sucked at delegating for a long time too. A really long time. I also use to drop the ball more than I'd like to admit, and was constantly having to thank people for their patience because I took too long to get back to them or couldn’t follow through in a timely fashion.

Truth is...

I was trying to wear too many hats.

When you're trying to be the C.E.O., head chef, dog trainer, farmer, social coordinator, lawn maintenance gal, administrator, social media manager and customer service provider, just to name a few...

Balls. get. dropped.

If this is happening to you, it's time to release that fear of letting go of control and get on the delegating train.

I know it's hard to imagine that anyone can do it better than you can...wink wink nudge nudge...but trust me on this one, it's time to narrow down your zone of genius and delegate (or delete) the rest!

2. There's not enough whitespace in your calendar

A crammed full schedule with little or no white space is another recipe for dropping balls.

There's no room for unexpected time expenses.

No matter how well you plan, unexpected time expense are going to show up once in a while.

If you don't have any white space in your calendar, the unexpected time expenses can derail you and cause you to drop the ball in your life (bye bye healthy eating) and biz (taking too long to respond to your clients & customers).

Think of your time as having fixed and discretionary expenses. When it comes to creating more white space, look for a fixed time expense that you can remove or cut back on.

It might mean letting go of one more of your client spots in your calendar or transferring a client file or committee meeting to a colleague.

Look at your calendar and make a decision about what fixed time expense you can eliminate so that you can create more white space to navigate those unexpected time expenses and keep the balls in the air :)

3. You're over giving and under receiving

Yup! This is a biggie when it comes to dropping balls. That nourishing giver inside who wants to help EVERYONE and solve the world's problems in an hour, is costing you your time freedom, sanity and yes, leaving a whole bunch of balls on the ground that you have to go around and clean up later (which takes even more of your time, causing you to drop more balls).

This one truly comes down to building and strengthening your boundary setting muscles.

Saying no to requests that encroach on your white space.

Honouring your own time.

Receiving the true value for the work and energy you are putting out into the world.

When you strengthen your boundary setting muscles, you open yourself up to becoming a better receiver and restore the balance between giving and receiving.

Just like a tetter-totter, when the weight is evenly distributed on both sides, no one falls off, and balls don't get dropped!
